MEASURE

Lifestyle calculators for sleep and movement.

Sleep cycles, walking calories and running pace — the everyday numbers behind rest and movement.

Not every useful number is about a big goal — sometimes it's just what time to go to bed, or how fast that morning run actually was. These three calculators work from the same instrument-panel approach as the rest of the site: sleep timing based on 90-minute sleep cycles, walking calorie estimates from MET values, and running pace worked out from distance and time, shown per kilometre and per mile.

Frequently asked questions

How many sleep cycles should I aim for?

A full sleep cycle runs about 90 minutes, and most adults do best waking at the end of a cycle rather than in the middle of one. Five to six cycles (about 7.5–9 hours) is a commonly recommended range for adults; the calculator above lists bedtime options for 3–6 cycles.

How do I calculate running pace from a race time?

Divide your total time by the distance covered. The calculator above does this for you and shows the result both per kilometre and per mile, along with your average speed in km/h.
